چکیده

This study introduced an alternative shortcut biological nitrogen removal (SBNR) process for landfill leachate treatment by developing a novel hydrodynamic sequencing batch reactor (H-SBR). The could enhance the oxygen transfer rate (OTR) and nitrite accumulation ratio (NAR) modifying internal turbulence intensity. average chemical demand (COD) total (TN) concentrations into were 660 250 mg L−1, respectively, efficiencies 93% 96% (TN). effect of geometric parameters on was estimated performing model nonlinear least square analysis. After correcting constants (α β) mass coefficients (KLa) to values 0.7361 1.2639, data fit experiment well with R-squared value 0.99. OTR improved up 30%, hence, increased NAR 20% reduction about 0.5 kg N kW−1 power efficiency. H-SBR development is innovative because efficiency modification intensity, although not mechanical equipment or supplements. For SBNR process, configuration enhancement significantly improve successful accumulation. In addition treatment, can be employed in low C/N wastewaters.

Artificial intelligence control of a sequencing batch reactor for nitrogen removal via nitrite from landfill leachate.

Leachate generated in old landfills is a high-strength wastewater, which is particularly difficult to treat owing to its low biochemical oxygen demand/total Kjeldahl nitrogen ratio. This paper seeks to demonstrate that reliable leachate treatment by means of sequencing batch reactors (SBRs) is indeed possible by means of the application of a smart control system. This study assesses the results...

Optimisation of sanitary landfill leachate treatment in a sequencing batch reactor.

A bench-scale SBR was operated for almost three years in an attempt to optimise the treatment of leachates generated in old landfill. The results of the first two years were used to design a monitoring and control system based on artificial intelligence concepts. Nitrogen removal was optimized via the nitrite shortcut. Nitrification and N removal were usually higher than 98% and 90%, respective...

Nitrogen Removal from Landfill Leachate by Microalgae

Landfill leachates result from the degradation of solid residues in sanitary landfills, thus presenting a high variability in terms of composition. Normally, these effluents are characterized by high ammoniacal-nitrogen (N-NH₄⁺) concentrations, high chemical oxygen demands and low phosphorus concentrations. The development of effective treatment strategies becomes difficult, posing a serious pr...

Nitrogen removal via the nitrite pathway during wastewater co-treatment with ammonia-rich landfill leachates in a sequencing batch reactor

The biological treatment of ammonia-rich landfill leachates due to an inadequate C to N ratio requires expensive supplementation of carbon from an external carbon source. In an effort to reduce treatment costs, the objective of the study was to determine the feasibility of nitrogen removal via the nitrite pathway during landfill leachate co-treatment with municipal wastewater. Initially, the la...
